How to measure your dog for a winter coat or sweater:
Size of the coats & sweaters are determined by back length and chest girth, but most often only the chest girth.
Make sure your dog is standing straight (you may need someone to assist you) and measure your dog at least twice to be sure you have the correct measurement before placing your order.
If you have a hard to fit dog, we also do custom orders on some of our coats (sweaters, hoodies etc.) Please e-mail us at suz@mountaindoglodge.com if this interests you.
We e-mail all our customers who place coat orders before we ship them out to get the breed & other measurements if needed (say if you have a dog with a large head we will want to double check the measurement of our coat to be sure the head can pass through the hole!). This will also ensure we both get the right size for your dog so returns won't be necessary (and no annoying return shipping charges!).
Length
With your dog standing straight, measure from your dog's collar to his/her bum. This will give you the length of your dog. For custom orders, measure wherever you wish the coat to end.
Girth
With your dog standing straight, measure around his/her chest, at the deepest (largest) area - this is normally directly behind the armpits.
Most of all the coats listed are sized by the girth measurement.
