Canine Sports Massage Therapy is the therapeutic application of hands-on deep tissue techniques to the voluntary muscle system - for the purpose of increasing circulation, reducing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, promoting healing and increasing range of motion in all breeds of dogs.
Massage helps reduce the risk of the dog getting injured when we ask them to perform certain things their body really aren't ready to do. Certain strokes will stimulate oil glands and promote hair growth for some dogs that are having skin problems. Massage is also a wonderful tool to use after surgery to help heal the body quicker, or for an older dog who stiffens up easily.
What effects does massage have on dogs?
Relieves pain, muscle tension and soreness
Increases circulation and blood supply to muscles
Improved muscle tone, flexibility and joint function
Alleviates tension, stress and anxiety
Aids recovery from injury/surgery
Relaxes and energizes
Helps maintain posture and balance
Makes your dog feel relaxed and stress free!
Note: Although massage will help condition and aid in your pet's recovery from surgery or injury, massage is not a substitute for medical care from a licensed veterinarian, rather it is a compliment to be used in conjunction with your vet.
We encourage our clients to consult their vet about canine massage
Our Suite boarding facility houses 11 large doggie suites. These are homey, comfy (each containing a large raised bed), they are heated by a wood & oil stove in the winter, and fan cooled in the summer (and that sweet mountain breeze!) The floors are tiled, ceilings are skylighted, and walls are gyprocked. No cold cement floors, or damp kennels here.
For extra large dogs or people with more than 2 dogs of medium size or larger our playroom is available as a large bedroom. For senior or special dogs we have our Luxury Room available at an extra charge. It is 10' X 16', with a truely homey look & feel.

We also offer In Home Boarding for the extra special dog. Cost for this is extra but some dogs benefit much more with this kind of boarding than any other type.
Those dogs welcome to enjoy In Home Boarding are dogs who are :
- spayed/neutered
- who do not mark in the home
(leniency is allowed - boys will be boys, a few squirts at the start is fine - it is those dogs who must drown everything in sight that we are referring to)
- who get along with male/female dogs of varying sizes in close quarters
- who do not have food/toy guarding issues
- who enjoy the company of men & women
- who do not bother cats
Benefits of In Home Boarding - Though our suites are more homey than most kennels, nothing is more like home than a home itself.
Dogs get to lounge on our furniture (or dog beds), come for drives with us (if they like car rides), visit dog friendly stores, and, if they are good off leash, can come enjoy the lake or the beach on nice days.
See below for pictures of happy dogs enjoying In Home Boarding.
We also offer doggie daycare! Dogs enjoy various activities throughout the day.
A Tired Dog Is A Happy Dog!
Daycare begins at 8am and goes until 5:30pm - dogs can be dropped off/picked up any time within those hours - be sure to let us know when you are coming so we can have everything ready for your arrival.
Do you prefer to bath your dog yourself (lower cost), but hate the mess? Why not bath your dog here, and leave us the mess! We have a large tub, with various shampoos/conditioners, as well as towels, brushes combs, de-matters, nail clippers, a blow dryer, etc.
If you prefer to have us do the bathing, that option is also available at an extra charge and includes pre-brush, shampoo, condition, ear cleaning, blow dry & finish brush. Depending on how co-operative your dog is, size, & coat it will take 1 - 3 hours.
Self Serve Bathes - $9 + tax
Lodge Groom - $28 + tax for bath, brush, blowdry, and ear cleaning.
We have a long Woodland Trail on site at Mountain Dog Lodge. We offer Woodland Walks once or twice a day at a very fair price where your dog can enjoy a good sniff of woodland goodness! During the fall walks are kept to the road.
Off leash walks are also available to dogs who are good off the leash & have excellent re-call. Off leash walks can be single or as a group.
The hike can last up to one hour.
For safety we do not use prong or choke chain collars on our walks (or at any time during your dog's stay). If you have such a collar for your dog it will be removed during his/her stay and we will use our own collars. We also will place bells on all dogs going for off leash walks all throughout the year.
Cost - $12 plus tax per walk.
Dogs who do not like other dogs, or who are not spayed/neutered will be walked for one hour daily free of charge.
These made to order cakes are a great idea for the extra special dog. Order a small cake for the more intimate occasion, or the large round or bone cake if your dog has lots of friends! Great for birthdays, holidays, or just because.
All cakes are made with holistic ingredients that are safe AND tasty for dogs to eat!
** Please let us know of any food allergies your dog may have (wheat, corn, chicken, nuts, etc).
